Core Tank, Martini Long Sleeve, Margarita Maxi & Iris Maxi

These items are made from 94% Micromodal & 6% Elastane. A completely biodegradable textile, our Micromodal is made from replenishable beech wood pulp derived from a sustainable source in Austria. They utilise a C02 neutral system, meaning up to 95% of the chemicals used during production are recycled.

The Core Tank, Iris Maxi & NiiPPY sleeves in ALMOND

These items were curated from ex-Issey Miyake deadstock fabric, made from an 100% natural blend of viscose/linen/spandex blend. By utilising reclaimed deadstock factory, we can prevent textile waste by effectively salvaging the fabric. Unfortunately, there is a lack of traceability for deadstock fabric, so we are conscious to check the composition, as well as buy whole rolls and stick to low quantities.

The Core Tank & Iris Mini in HORIZON PRINT

These items are made from 96% Recycled Polyester & 4% Elastane. This FSC certified fabric has been digitally printed in the UK using an eco-friendly process that avoids gas, coal and oil in it’s production.

Having worked with London-based Artist Hannah Caramel0 for our previous collection “Wonders”, we were very keen to work with this talented women once again. Inspired by the hues of evening skies and reflections on rippling water, Caramelo has created a timeless yet bold print, ready to turn heads.

“W O N D E R S”

This NiiPPY Studios x Caramelo Illustrations collection was entirely handmade by us at our studio, and is made from a combination of the following combination natural and regenerative materials.

REGENERATIVE SILK

Sourced from a small business in Hackney Downs, East London and manufactured at a Regenerative Agriculture Farm in Nanchong’s Yilong County, China, our Silk’s purpose is to gives back to the earth and it’s communities.

Through utilising sustainable systems including rotational cropping, biological pest control and solar energy, the silk farm is able to replenish its environment and restore biodiversity.

They also utilise education programmes to create new opportunities for their employees, whilst training local farmers to become qualifies line leaders. Take a look at the site yourself via their live stream.

HEMP & BAMBOO ORGANIC JERSEY

The lining of both our tops and skirts are made from a blend of 55% Organic Hemp and 45% viscose bamboo.

Not only is hemp naturally biodegradable and recyclable, it is also one of the most purifying plants, leaving the air cleaner and improving the soil to fight global warming.

As for Bamboo, it’s sustainable properties include naturally replenishing itself, and therefore being one of the most renewable sources of the planet, as well as being biodegradable. It is also said to be one of the softest materials, great for lining our pieces!

RECYCLED T-SHIRT YARN

The straps on our tops are made from 100% t-shirt waste. The fabric, sourced from European fashion textile factories, is hand-sorted by colour and produced in small runs at a factory in Portugal. With the fashion industry currently recycling less than 1% of textiles each year, this recycled yarn help fight the battle of waste and overconsumption.

PLANET a.

THE GEO TOTE

These tote bags are made from 100% recycled materials. Their composition is as follows:

80% Recycled Cotton

20% Recycled Polyester from post-consumer PET bottles

See the ‘Manufacturing’ section of this text for information on the ethical and sustainable production of this tote bag.

THE ORB HOODIE & GLOBE SWEATSHIRT

We are driven by our continuous aim to improve our sustainability throughout all aspects of NiiPPY Studios. For the clothing in our first manufactured collection, Lake Trip, we utilised 100% Organic Cotton, and recognised that we wanted to improve upon this. Thus, for our second collection, PLANET a, our clothing is made up of the following composition:

15% Recycled Polyester from post-consumer PET bottles

85% Organic Cotton

By using recycled materials, it prolongs the life of textiles by repurposing them for further use.

The benefits of using organic cotton are as follows:

  • Each year, organic cotton uses 88% less water – the equivalent to 87,201 Olympic size swimming pools.

  • It also uses 62% less energy than conventional cotton – the equivalent of driving a car around the globe 13,572 times.

  • No toxic chemicals are used to grow organic cotton, making it a great deal safer for both workers and the environment.

  • The growing process does not damage the soil and therefore allows the land to recover for further use.

  • Growing organic cotton produces significantly less CO2 emissions than its counterpart.

  • Source

These figures demonstrate just how much more environmentally and socially friendly organic cotton is. In saying this, we would like to identify our desire to evolve from using this material. Our goal is to utilise a circular manufacturing system that produces regenerative fibres. This means we want to use waste to create new fibres, whilst constructing a system that instinctively replenishes our planet’s natural resources. In order to achieve this goal, we must start somewhere, and will always provide ever-progressing sustainable alternatives with each of our collections

Lake Trip

The Lago Tote

We are proud to state that these tote bags are made from 100% recycled materials, including recycled polyester made from plastic bottle waste. Their composition is as follows:

60% Recycled pre-consumer cotton organically grown

40% Recycled post-consumer polyester

See the ‘Manufacturing’ section of this text for information on the ethical and sustainable production of this tote bag.

The Ecru & Walnut tee’s

Since this was our first manufactured collection, we did not anticipate that we needed to cater the graphic we had designed prior to sourcing our desired t-shirt. This meant that because our graphic needed to be printed with ‘direct to garment’ technology, we could no longer source the t-shirt we wanted with our printing company. This is why we decided to use a t-shirt made from 100% GOTS certified organic cotton.

In The Clouds

Textiles

For our first ever collection, we’ve sourced textiles from garments found in charity shops. These garments ranged from men’s shirts to women’s skirts, and were chosen due to their high quality textile. We have tried to utilise as much of the fabric as possible to minimise waste and have made a handful of eco-friendly scrunchies from these offcuts. The elastic within these hair ties are made from certified organic cotton and natural rubber, sourced from an independent British brand called Maven Patterns. The charity shops supported in the creation of this collection were as follows.

British Heart Foundation

Debra

Tenovus

Rafael Hospice

Dogs Trust

Princess Alice

British Red Cross

Thread

As this was our first collection, we mostly utilised threads that were already around the house or were given to us by friends and family. For the colours that we didn’t have, we purchased a handful of polyester-cotton threads to tide us over. For the seams in our second drop, we used eco-thread made from 100% recycled plastic, sourced from a small independent British brand. Unfortunately we were unable to use these threads for our overlocking due to quantities, however we aim to achieve this in our next collection.

Garment Construction

Daisy and Emily, the co-founders of NiiPPY Studios, made the tops for this collection themselves. This included design, pattern construction, pattern cutting and sewing, and means we can be 100% sure of ethicality. Additionally, we collected waste paper from local businesses that we recycled to make our patterns.

Labels

Our fabric labels are made from organic cotton and purchased from an independent business called DesignLabels.
